Stripe Shirt Portraits

Mary has been working on a series of striped shirt paintings for her friends at Chance. They are portraits of six creative women, capturing their individual spirit through the striped shirts they wear. [From top to Bottom: Maira Kalman, Lynn Wagenknecht, Julie Gilhart, Zoe Cassavetes, Alexandra Richards and Selima Salaun]

Prints are for sale [here] and the originals are for sale, too. Proceeds of the project will go to the Japan Society’s Earthquake Relief Fund. Stop by the Chance shop [211 Elizabeth Street, Thursday thru Sunday 12 to 7 pm.] to check ‘em out.

5 Innovative Contemporary Jewelry Pieces -- my picked :-)

Klimt02 is *the* site for contemporary jewelry artists. There’s an extensive list of exhibitions, showcases, fairs, and calls for entry going on around the world, a directory of jewellers and galleries, and an online store.

Klimt02 recently announced their 2010 collection, “a selection of essential and benchmark jewels in contemporary jewellery.” 140 pieces from 26 international artists were included this year, and each piece is for sale through Klimt02. Ten of my favorites, after the jump.

Boxes and Components by Helen Britton: “In having been produced quickly and cheaply, I enjoyed the freedom of design I found in these small objects,” Britton says of the plastic pieces she found in an old warehouse. “I wanted to give the elements the chance to continue their lives in a new context, without denying their roots.”

Happy Family Mrs by Benjamin Lignel: “Think of it as an aesthetic band-aid,” Lignel writes about his gold-plated paper wrist bands.

Avondvlinder by Ted Noten: Noten’s 3D printed jewelry. These piggies in pearls were 3D printed in titanium and gold. The cost of the gold ring changes each day, fluctuating with the price of gold.

Sun by Marc Monzó: This 18k gold pendant reminds me of Miami.

Pink Pair by Manon van Kouswijk: Truly strange.

In 2010, Elasticbrand (Arjen Noordeman and Christie Wright) wanted to create a collaborative project where they could take two things that they both love-ceramic objects and hip-hop music-and fuse them into one project: Audiowear.

Audiowear is a series of musical jewelry inspired by idiophone and aerophone instruments and the acoustic quality of clay. The collection includes a trumpet bracelet, a guiro cuff with playing thimble, a whistle charm necklace, a pan-flute collar, a diamond shaped rattle bracelet, and colorful xylophone bangles. These objects were designed to create a vocabulary of sounds that could then be used for music production.

Ring me collection is all about having fun.

We are the classmates from art and design university in Taipei, Taiwan. Our collections are contemporary jewelry, offers bold, edgy statement pieces informed by things is our daily life, but we promise they'll wow you ;-).
Our team has taken subject matters from everyday life, multicultural background and world travels, translated them into pieces of jewelry.

This little project statred in 2009, when we graduated from design school.

We produce limited series that allow us, with reasonable prices, to invest much time and energy in creating each of our pieces.
